Our ambassador and double Olympic gold medalist Daley Thompson recently celebrated his 60th birthday. To mark the occasion, we created a pop-up gym on London’s Southbank to encourage people to keep moving and chasing their dreams, whatever their age.
Open to anyone and everyone, the gym featured a special workout created by Daley, comprised of a varied, high intensity 10-stop circuit session, with participants tackling each exercise for 60 seconds, with 30 seconds of rest in between. Daley designed a workout which allowed everyone to push themselves to their limit, and challenged participants to set a 6-month target of repetitions for each exercise based on their score on the day.
Throughout the day, Daley was on hand to encourage, inspire and show all those who took part that, whether it’s a workout, or overcoming life’s obstacles, with the right attitude and mindset, you can get through anything and achieve your dream at any age.
It was also the perfect moment to launch a short film of Daley’s recent climb up Snowdon with a group of 60 people all aged 60 years and over to prove that age is just a number and it should stop one from achieving new goals. Many of those who took part in this experience were re-united as they gathered at the pop-up gym to watch the film for the first time, before taking on the challenge of Daley’s circuit session.
This grassroots event was hosted as a part of Bridgestone UK’s Chase Your Dream, No Matter What campaign, which seeks to inspire everyday battlers to share their dream and chase it, no matter what.
