Daley Thompson set off from the blocks of prejudice and poverty to become the greatest British decathlete ever.
Daley Thompson grew up in an underprivileged part of London in the 1960’s, a time of great social inequality and racial divide.
In pursuit of his Olympic dream, Daley had to battle not only the expectations of society, but those of his own family and was forced to support himself through training. Unable to afford proper accommodation, he even slept on the floor at his sports club. Whatever it took to be the best, even training on Christmas day, Daley did it.
Despite these obstacles, Daley became one of the most celebrated decathletes of all time. He’s now passing on his hard-earned knowledge and experience coaching the next generation.
